OXFORD BANDS

Here, friends, colleagues and ex-lovers call in a few favours with shameless plugs for their Oxford-related musical ventures.

THE BRICKWORK LIZARDS  "What happens when you combine an oud plucking Egyptian crooner, a Scottish after midnight jazz singer , a classical cellist and mad as a hatter hip hop rapper all with a global flavor. Sounds like an exotic cocktail !! No it’s the...Brickwork Lizards." (It says here.)

THE EVENINGS  "We hate it when our friends become successfull", opined Morrissey on his 1992 album "Your Arsenal". However, Oliver can testify to feeling nothing but pride and satisfaction (no, honestly) as young Mark Baldwin, introduced to the Oxford music scene as the unassuming drummer in Oliver's gigging line-up, proceeded to single-handedly take it over for himself in the manner of some power-crazed 19th century European imperialist. He did this by means of his experimental electronica outfit The Evenings, who soon became a by-word for live sonic collages, arresting visuals, and venues left full of torn-up newspaper. Its' line-up has featured, at one time or another, almost all of Oxford music's movers and shakers (and Oliver).  Albums, EPs, high-profile shows and universal plaudits have been his story (tuh!). Mark's two shadowy older brothers have also had a hand in Oliver's musical development, and have done their thing in groups called Lind Optical and Los Diablos. One of them is now called James Bell.

THE KEYBOARD CHOIR  They are a choir made out of keyboards. Oliver's mate Seb is in them. Brian Eno likes them. They are on uber-trendy Brainlove Records. They have a very good album with a long name. For them, the future is bright...

THE YOUNG KNIVES  Oliver knew them before they were famous. Now they are and he isn't.
